So remember to bring your printout, gear and a chair. See you all there!!

Printout and chair?! I have neither! :(

Canadian Tire has fold up camping chairs on sale this week for $8.99. Half price. Lovely camo pattern for the nature photographer. Most CT stores open at 9:00 AM on Sunday.

The weather report looks a little better this morning - variable cloudiness. The showers will only roll in around 2pm. See you there!!

Pebbz - I'm sure someone will be willing to share a printout with you at the event :)

James (Seren Dipity) - thanks for presenting the material - much appreciated.
Too bad the rain showed up 48 minutes ahead of schedule ;)

Thanks Justin for organising this, and the Jameses for running the show.

Sorry was I late - I blame Mr. Google for telling me that Grenadier Cafe is located on Parkside Drive... (and not to mention that I tried to be too smart to walk from Keele station).

Pictures!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mike-tan/3981440948/" title=". by mike.tan, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2624/3981440948_1f43c4fe47.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="."></a>

So, ok, a few of us were not especially attentive.. Here we were, monkeying around:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mike-tan/3982060020/" title="Kevin II by mike.tan, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2629/3982060020_d9444515fe.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="Kevin II"></a>

The set (we did not do much shooting, actually):

Thanks for setting this up guys!

Thank you to James as well. You did a great job at organizing and explaining the material.

Too bad we had to cut it short due to the rain. Hopefully you'll do more in the future!

I also want to thanks Justin and James for organizing and running the lecture. I enjoyed the practical and liked how we started off with one strobe and adjusted with a different modifier to view the effect.

It was just really unfortunate that we didn't get to move into the multiple strobes. I will definitely try to attend the next one.

Thanks

Why would there be pictures Mike? The only pictures taken were for technique demonstration purposes only - that is, other than the ones taken when folks were monkeying around and not paying attention

and a shot of us taking over the Grenadier Cafe, shot with a 20km x 20km softbox and 4x10^26 W continuous light.

Mike, I too like the BIG GIANT softbox you speak of; but I find it to be unreliable - sometimes it goes away, only to reveal a hard light behind it, or like yesterday, it turn into a BIG soggy softbox ;)

yeah, but that makes it challenging and fun right?

If people don't already do so, subscription to strobist.com (on your favourite feed reader) is fun; look what got posted today:

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vfTR3QtbDbU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vfTR3QtbDbU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

The original post explains it a little: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2009/10/nu ... ernet.html

Here's a quick quiz for you guys for fun - how many light sources are used for this lovely picture of George? And how would you darken the ambient portion of the picture? :)

First to answer correctly gets a lollipop ;)

Since Andy was not there, I'm going to steal his answer.

1) Catchlights in the eye and specular highlights on the nose

2) Close down the aperture. (MS Paint is for n00bs!)

Sorry Pebbz - incorrect on both (p.s. don't listen to Andy). Lolly is still up for grabs :)
