Details:

What: Black Creek Pioneer Village
When: Saturday November 19th 2011
Time: 11AM
Where: Meet at the main entrance
Bring: Tripod (are only ok outside), and camera gear.

It's my birthday, and I did want to go to Casa Loma - my favourite Toronto landmark - but there is a big show, and they were not fond about tripods.

So now... We're going to Black Creek Pioneer Village! My second favourite place... I am a member, yes, that's how much I like it.

We'll meet at 11am, go order bread, and shoot. I'll be shooting 4x5 and medium format. See you there!

It's my birthday, and I want to go to Casa Loma - my favourite Toronto landmark - I grew up loving Casa Loma and its history, and I could probably tell you just about anything you ever wanted to know - as I have read just about every book written on Henry Pellatt and the Casa Loma grounds. I wouldn't say I am an expert - but I have done a bit of research you could say.

Anyhow - lovely place for pictures - we'll spend a couple of hours roaming the halls and tunnels of the castle, and probably head somewhere for lunch after shooting around 2:00pm, as 3 hours of shooting should be plenty.

would we need a permit?

for what?

Typically with a point and shoot you can go and shoot anywhere. But pull out a good camera and a tripod and someone usually has their hand out for money for the purchase of a permit. You dont suppose that the movie company making X-men didnt need a permit to shoot there? My question is not so much a permit but are we allowed to take tripods? As I remember the floors are wood, people walking all around so tripods are bothersome to everyone else except the person using it. Id love to shoot some bracketed shots for HDR and a tripod would sure come in handy.

This is an informal type of thing, not serious photo shoot - so no permits are needed. We have been doing this for several years without a problem. I'll let them know we're coming, and will most likely have tripods, but never had an issue.

Never had an issue, been doing this one annually for years. I let them know our group is coming, and that we are just an amateur photo group.

I just had to send my camera in to Nikon for another cleaning. I dont expect to get it back before the trip. I will use a backup camera but not happy about that.

Unfortunately some stuff has come up and I can no longer make it. Hopefully this will be done again next year!

Hey guys,

we might have an issue now with tripods -- they apparently have something going on this weekend -- and I contacted the castle, and a lady responded saying that normally they would welcome us with open arms - but not for this weekend.

SO -- do we reschedule? Or do we still go, but without tripods?

I think a reschedule would be most inclusive.
Allow those who would otherwise attend with tri-pod/mono-pod to do so still.

Then again it is your Birthday!
Happy Birthday Regardless!

Is the "something going on" an event worth shooting? If not, then I would prefer to reschedule.

I would suggest rescheduling so that we can use tripods.

Does this mean that we reschedule David's birthday too? Does TPMG have that power?

Well, it seems like there is an overwhelming consensus to reschedule.... But I wouldn't mind going shooting still, just not casa loma. Any suggestions?

Have a fun day of shooting at the Village and a wonderful birthday David.
I will take a pass on this one and hope that we do Casa Loma soon.

So if anyone doesn't want to come to the alternative plans for tomorrow -- please unregister that way we have a clearer picture of who to expect. I understand if you guys don't want to go given the last minute change.
