Details:

What: A Random Road Trip
When: Fri. Apr 02, 2010
Time: 10AM
Where: Tim Hortons, 3555 Major Mackenzie Dr West, Maple (West of Hwy 400 on the South Side at Vellore Woods Blvd)
Bring: equipment for any conceivable situation.

At the Maple Syrup festival event, a few of us decided that shooting the Maple Syrup festival was not enough that day. A semi-random voyage ensued, with us basically picking a point on the map and running with it. We had ended up in Nashville, the Cheltenham Badlands, and the Cheltenham Brickworks.

It seemed a good idea at the time, and I think it bears a repeat.

From the starting point, we pick a place, take the scenic route, and shoot whatever comes up, or whatever better ideas come up. And leapfrog around.

For convenience I think we limit ourselves to a 1 hour radius from the starting point, in a direction away from the city.

If I can convince the wife to come along for the hike, we're in. I'll confirm in a day or so or if you can figure out where we'll be heading that'd be great.

If I do go, I'll be renting a zipcar, and so if anyone would like to share a small portion of the cost, they're welcome to ride with us. Leaving from downtown and can pick up along the way. (This is tentative until actual confirmation of course).

My favorite photo event! You might try St Jacobs area--may be horses plowing fields? Buggys on the road after church?

I kinda wish I stuck around for the semi-random voyage last week. I dislocated my shoulder boarding after the Maple Syrup festival event. Potatoeye I will confirm tomorrow if I can definitely go or not, I can offer a ride from Eglinton west station.

I'm thinking for initially meeting up in the Maple area (Hwy 400/Rutherford)ish. I'm a little selfish in that it minimizes the drive south for me, since we'd be turning around anyway. But at least this way we're just out of the city.

Okay, I've updated it to be the Tim Hortons right near Major Mack and Hwy 400. Depending on the turnout, some people might want to leave their cars at the carpool lot and we can carpool some of us.

Ok so I am coming.

I can offer rides from Toronto.

I can pick up either at Kennedy Subway (Scarborough) near my home or at the York Mills and Younge Subway on the way up if anyone needs a ride.

Stay as long as you like, but if you want to leave early, you may want to stick to your own car.

There is very little in terms of a plan. As I write this I'm composing a list and a map guesstimate of what falls in my 1hour plan, but we may decide on something else, or maybe we'll visit more than one place.

I think we go as long as there is will to do so. At the latest, it will be when we run out of light. :)

For anyone that needs my cell number, pm me tonight.

I think a fun time was had by all today. I think we started with 12 bodies spread among 5 cars, and gradually lost 3 cars over the day, finishing up with 8 people at the end in 2 cars. Among the places visited:
-laskay
-strange
-kettleby
-Newmarket
-pottageville
-schomberg
-lloydtown
-ballycroy ghost town
-cheltenham badlands
-cheltenham brickworks

next time, I think the plan is northeast, ie the south and east shores of lake simcoe, and st Jacobs also in future.

Man am I tired!

Thanks Chris for organizing. It was a great day. The list of locations is great as it helps with tagging the photos.

Chris -- let me know about a tentative date for the Northeast tour - as I know LOTS of places in this direction where we could end up.

I know Jordan, Sebastian, and I were discussing this at dinner: I did find the "disable AF on shutter" control buried in a menu tonight on my a700 and a900.
