Details:

What: Black Creek Pioneer Village
When: Sunday November 6th 2011
Time: 11AM
Where: meet at the main gate entrance
Bring: camera, tripod

So a bit of a last minute decision, but I decided to go to Black creek pioneer village on Sunday. I am probably going to shoot large format. And/or medium format black and white.

Just looking to see if anyone is interested in joining.

I will probably be at the Newmarket Remembrance Day parade.

Speaking of which... I need to shoot the overnight cenotaph guard on Saturday night...

The first is David's camera set up for a shot.

By all accounts I hear it's a good one. It seems it will suit you (Bynx) well. Congrats!

nice shots! Looks like a nice day too!

Just curious, why did you go monochrome on the interior shots? They are nice, but I am curious as to how those rooms would have been decorated back then too, with the old fashioned color schemes. :)

Ok Chopper here are the colorized versions.

I just noticed the color difference between the two pics. The bottom room you can see in the top pic. Which room is more correct? The top pic has a bit too much saturation.

or go to my flickr page and look at my Black Creek Pioneer Village set -- I have a ton of shooting experience at Black Creek.

I had an exhibition this past May for Doors Open at the village.

Bynx, love the light in the last color version that you posted.

Did they allow the use of tripods for the interior photos?

As a rule, no.

If it's not busy, sometimes they don't mind. Make sure you use the rubber feet -- no spikes!

that actually has nothing to do with the rule... the real reason why BCPV does not allow tripods interior is because they are worried about a tripod knocking over and damaging the artifacts. They have a lot of original furniture in the rooms that are 150 years old.

But, ya -- you can get away with it when its less busy. some of the interpreters turn a blind eye.

The floors are in pretty rough shape as is with the traffic that goes through the rooms. The best stuff is on the other side of ropes so not much chance of hitting anything. I lugged around my tripod usually fully extended which is the most cumbersome way and nobody said anything. Nice lot of people acting out their parts as pioneers and eager to share their experiences with the job.
