Details:

What: Beginner Event photography series - Session 2
When: Mon. October 24, 2011
Time: 7pm - 9pm
Where: Gardiner Museum
Bring: Your own camera, and at least one fast lens, flash cannot be used during event, but after can be
Cost: $10 cash donation to Soundstreams

I've been volunteer shooting for Soundstreams over the past year and they ask me to return to do it again this year. They hold a series of private musical events where they host musicians from all around the world and they would just like to have documented. They like the work that I do, and I asked them if I could introduce other photographers to the experience as they may not have done it before. So, they agreed!

The only thing they ask for in return is shots from the event. I just send them a picasa link and they are more than happy with it.

What I ask is that you make a cash donation of $10 to Soundstreams the night of the event. This will be a very small ad-hoc as its an intimate gathering.

There will be more events up coming and depending on the event, I may be able to accommodate more than a few participants. Dates to follow.

This is more of an opportunity to learn to shoot events, and how to get the shots you wants, the client wants, and being able to deliver. I invite anyone, but I encourage photogs that haven't done events before as I think this would be great exposure to a different side of things out there.

Only two people are not permitted to participate/register for this event as they participated in the last event, quite masterfully I may add. Sorry Bluenite05 and Simon!

Quick question, what focal length would be good for shooting this? Without flash I imagine the faster the lens the better, the only two choices I have are a Sigma 50 f/1.4 or the 105VR f/2.8 on a D700, would that be sufficient?

With both those lenses, you'll be great! Its not completely dark and the 1.4 will be more than sufficient.

Bring your flash anyhow, as we can use them after most of the event for group shots after.

Hi Justin,

I had loads of fun last night. It was definitely a learning process as well. Thanks for setting this up for us.

Let us know when you need the images. I'll try to get mine done within the next few days.

Thanks,
Jeoff

Hi Justin,
Thanks for a great learning experience. Two quick question, what format/resolution do you want the images in and what's the best way to send/get them to you.

I should have them ready by tomorrow night.

Thanks,
Dimitris

Thanks gentlemen!! Glad you both enjoyed it!!

You can email them to me if you want, my email can handle it

I use 1000px on longest side, 240dpi

Should be more than enough quality for this type of thing
