Big thanks to Justin and Nick for putting this together. I've only been to one other TPMG workshop before, so my experience with them is pretty limited. Having said that, I was very impressed with how well ran the workshop was, it was a great balance of knowledge, theory (rife with examples) and practice. I really liked the fact that when we divided ourselves into groups each individual group had a small project to tackle.

I wish I had been able to tackle another one of those mini-projects during the session, but that might have been tough given it was an introductory session, so there was quite a lot of material to cover.

Now I'll have to get off my lazy butt and set up some little projects to try at home...

Excellent event. Thanks J and N
Slow and steady. One day should be able to dial the f stop correctly after doubling the distance of the strobe.

Ok, here we go. Got off my lazy butt to do some test shots at home applying what we were learning at the workshop.

I started out using a single speedlite + umbrella at about 30 degrees off to the right. However, that was giving me a pretty nasty dark spot around the dino's right leg. So I broke out the trusty old SB-28, set it to 1/64 and used that as fill.

The final result is as seen below:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/qualdoth/5608129305/" title="Strobed dino by qualdoth, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5230/5608129305_fce2182ab0.jpg" width="334" height="500" alt="Strobed dino"></a>

The annoying little spot of light to the left of his head is a street light coming through my blinds...

Q, App and Alvin, you guys put a big smile on my face :)

I'm glad we could inspire you all to try things out!

How about I run a session with a model(s) for everyone to work with? I'll put out a feeler in another thread soon

In case anyone is interested in some more theory, beyond what Nick had in his presentation, I've been reading Syl Arena's book over the last while. I'm finding it to be an excellent read. It's basically like the Hot Shoe Diaries for Canon folks.
