Details:

What: Bloomsday!
When: Wed. June 16, 2010
Time: Noon
Where: Molly Bloom's (191 College St) & U of T
Bring: Camera and $ for a pint or two of stout/porter

Bloomsday is an international Literary Holiday celebrating James Joyce's seminal novel Ulysses in which Leopold Bloom, a Dublin Jew, and a cityful of other colourful characters go about their lives in the city of Dublin on June 16th, 1904. Source. This is the first time in ages I have remembered Bloomsday before it actually occurs. If you follow the source link you will see there are a handful of events around the city, but I was thinking about just heading down to Molly Bloom's for a pint or two and some candid shooting. Anyone else interested?

Cool. I figured this one would be a long shot at best. Any time preference?

With the forecast as it is I'm pretty sure I don't want to hike my way down to the Beaches that early in the morning to find that the rain has scared the Dubliners away. What about Molly Blooms at around noon? For the ritual of the day that will give me a chance to have some fries, "potato I have," a pint and we can see if there're any events happening at the bar or at U of T around Bloomsday. The Web site for the bar, disappointingly, says nothing. At worst we can wander around U of T and get architecture shots or detail shots if the sky doesn't cooperate.

The way transit works out I'll probably be at Molly Blooms around 11:30. Unless I miss the train I plan on getting then it'll be closer to 12:30.

Not that I can join you (work, blech) but you may also want to take a walk over to Queen's Park for the Luminato display that they're setting up there, starting tomorrow. It may not be great, but it was the only thing that I thought might be photo-worthy for the whole Luminato festival.

The two events I have attended so far have ended up in 10 hours plus of walking. The TPMG exercise routine!

That's a great shot Alice! Especially considering the tripod. Before you worry too much about your next lens you should think about a new tripod, especially with your interest in night/landscape/cityscape. I still have yet to go through what I got yesterday.

It's a shame more people couldn't have made it out to see the costumes and scenes from the novel acted out. It was a tremendous Bloomsday celebration! Or, maybe, that's how I'm choosing to remember the dingy hole of a bar with really bad music, no eating utensils, and a server who had no clue what the date even was. A disgrace to the name Joyce! All turned out well in the end and we did see one Joyce reveler later in the day (a guy in a tee shirt counts!).

Well, unfortunately not all of us are born with the understanding of art, so be gentle to me.
Here's what I got
