What: War of 1812 Re-enactment at the Backus Heritage Conservation Area
When: Saturday September 12, 2009
Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Where: Backus Heritage Conservation Area near Port Rowan; meet in the parking lot
Cost: $12.00 Vehicle+occupants
Bring: Camera gear (long lenses/monopods may be useful), lunch/snacks/drinks, you know what you need
I have never been to a large re-enactment and this one sounds good. It is estimated that between 500 to 800 re-enactors will attend this event. The intent is to arrive for the first skirmish at the Mill and then we can visit the encampments and sutlers row. Then the main battle in the afternoon. I expect it will be busy and so I have suggested we get there at 9:00 AM.

Hundreds of British and American re-enactors and settlers are expected to converge in the Heritage Village for the 20th anniversary of this popular event. Visit authentic encampments, take part in mini militia or find unique items to purchase in sutlers row. Military re-enactors, merchants and military music will be part of this two-day event. To get there from Toronto: Take the Q.E.W. west to Highway 403. Turn south on Hwy. 6. Go through Port Dover, then turn south on Hwy. 24. Follow for 20 km. Turn left at the sign and follow for 3 km. Turn right on Regional Road 42. Entrance is up 1km on the right.
It is approximately 2.5 hours from Toronto.
